We offer a variety of fun and interesting classes at every age level. See individual class descriptions below, organized by age/grade level.
Class Descriptions

Preschool and Kindergarten
Ages: 0 to 5 with a caregiver
Description: In this fun, Spanish-immersion music class, we sing, dance and play in Spanish with your little one in a fun, welcoming environment for Spanish-speakers and Spanish-learners alike.
This class uses the Canta y Baila Conmigo Family curriculum. Each semester, we learn a collection of about 30 songs from around the Spanish-speaking world. Each family gets a full color song book, a CD, a download code for the music and access to an online Family Playground to keep the music making going at home.
Ages: 5 - 6 years
Description: Our kindergarten students spend two class periods with veteran kindergarten immersion teacher, Señora Andino, getting a wonderful introduction to the Spanish language in an immersion environment.
Sample topics: Colors, numbers, letters, classroom concepts (raising your hand, standing, sitting, taking turns), animals, size and more.
Ages: 5 to 6 years
Description: Our kindergarten music and movement class brings Spanish alive through movement, dance, games, songs and activities. We use Canta y Baila Conmigo's En La Escuela curriculum, full of fun songs that will build their musical and language skills at the same time. Families get a download code to listen to the music at home, as well as a songbook with activities.
Sample topics: Movement verbs (running, walking, jumping, etc.) and concepts (fast/slow, high/low), instruments, concepts related to the songs we sing such as animals, parts of the body and more.
Upper Elementary and Middle School
Grades: Kindergarten through 8th grade
Descriptions: These casual, fun groups meet during our 9:30 hour to provide a bit more Spanish for families who are interested or need an earlier morning start time. Groups are divided by age and ability.
Sample topics/activities: Activities are designed with the age and ability of the students registered, but often include games, songs and fun activities. Intermediate and advanced students may have book clubs or conversation groups led by fluent Spanish speakers. Parents and students are encouraged to share with the teacher/leader the types of things they would like to be learning or even bring in your own activities or curriculum.
Grades: All grades
Description: During our first hour, our students are divided by age and language level to learn the fundamentals of reading and writing in Spanish. Topics vary by age and level, but can include the phonics, reading comprehension, literature genres, stories, creative writing and more.
Grades: 4th through 8th
Description: This class gets students moving and using Spanish, learning movement vocabulary, music and instruments to deepen their knowledge of Spanish. We study 8 to 10 Spanish-speaking countries each year and learn their music and dance traditions together. We also study age-appropriate Spanish-language pop songs, studying their lyrics and learning about music from around the globe.
Sample topics: During the 24-25 school year, our students have been learning about the music and dance traditions of Puerto Rico, ancient Mayan melodies from Guatemala, wild Spanish bonfire-jumping festivals, dance from the Venezuelan highlands and Colombia's infectious cumbia, among other topics.
Grades: 4th through 8th
Description: Students study different science and social studies topics throughout the year in Spanish, learning new vocabulary, and doing experiments, games and projects to deepen their learning.
Sample topics: During the 2024 school year, students studied the states and regions of the United states, economics and cycles of nature.
Grades: 4th through 8th
Description: Designed for older beginners who need reinforcement on key vocabulary and ideas in Spanish or experienced students who want to review, this fun class uses games and activities to learn the language in a friendly immersion environment. . Each class is planned with activities and games that are appropriate and fun for the age of the students.
Sample topics: Days of the week, months of the year, clothes, parts of the body, fruits and vegetables, the seasons, weather, nature, parts of the house. Topics are on a three year rotation, so change from year to year.
Grades: 4th through 8th grade
Description: In this fun elective class, our students learn about 8-10 different Spanish-speaking countries each year, studying the beautiful cultures and traditions of each country and making art projects inspired by the traditional art or famous artists of each location. Countries are on a three-year rotation, so topics change from year to year.
Sample topics: Some examples from this school year include: Coqui frogs from Puerto Rico, the colorful "chicken buses" of Guatemala, a tomato food-fight festival from Spain, Venezuelan artist Stanley Bernardez and his colorful geometric art, a Colombian Jeep festival and parade, Ecuador's avenue of volcanoes, and much more.

Spanish 1, 2, 3/4 - Middle/High School
Grades: 6th through 12th
Schedule: This online class meets twice a week, with a flexible schedule option. For the first weekly session, students can choose either Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. or Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.. For the second weekly session, students can choose either Thursday at 10:30 a.m. or Friday at 9:30 a.m. Students are expected to choose two regular weekly sessions and stick to that schedule, with exceptions made for appointments, illness, etc.
Classes will be conducted online thru Google classrooms and Google Meet, with an option to come in Tuesdays for in-person electives. Students can take the class completely online from home, but can also come in to our building on Tuesdays for the online class and take electives for the remaining part of the day.
Description: Spanish 1 is taught using “comprehensible input,” which means the teacher and curriculum provide oral and written input that students are able to understand 90% of the time. Each unit we study will contain a set of “language functions,” chunks of language that students will use to express their own ideas. As a class, we co-create stories, listen to songs, and listen to and read about Spanish culture, and respond to what we’re learning by speaking and writing.
This class is designed to be equivalent to a Spanish 1 class at the high school level.
The online class will utilize the Comprehensible Classroom's Somos curriculum as well as resources such as novels, edpuzzle, flipgrid, Señor Wooly and other resources to keep the students engaged and learning inside and outside the classroom.
Virtual or in-person option: Students are welcome to come to the facility on Tuesdays (First Convenant Church) and participate online via a personal computer with other classmates in their same level or they may choose to stay at home and participate in class completely virtually. There will be a classroom supervisor to ensure students are staying focused. Students will be required to complete 1-2 hours of additional work outside the classroom as assigned by the teacher.
Students that attend on campus or that would like to enhance their Spanish language skills are welcome to sign up for the following classes also:

Grades: 6th through 12th

Students can take the class completely online from home, but can also come in to our building on Tuesdays for the online class and take electives for the remaining part of the day.

Description: This online class meets twice weekly for an hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. The class covers advanced grammar and comprehension using resources such as novels, edpuzzle, flipgrid, Señor Wooly and other resources to keep the students engaged and learning inside and outside the classroom.
Grades: 7th grade and up
Description: Students in our Spanish 2 through 4 classes have the opportunity to be a teacher's assistant with elementary classes, where they will get to hear additional Spanish and practice using their speaking skills to help younger learners.
Grades: 7th through 12th
Description: If your older student is taking class with us, but needs a class period to work on outside work, we are happy to provide space and supervision, free of charge, for one of our normal class periods.


Lower Elementary Classes
Grades: Kindergarten through 8th grade

Sample topics/activities: Activities are designed with the age and ability of the students registered, but often include games, songs and fun activities. For younger students this time is spent doing typical play activities such as Bingo or Uno, reading books or learning songs. Parents and students are encouraged to share with the teacher/leader the types of things they would like to be learning or even bring in your own activities or curriculum.
Ages/Grades: All ages
Description: During our first class period, our students are divided by age and language level to learn the fundamentals of reading and writing in Spanish. Each class is developmentally appropriate, using books and projects that engage and interest the students as they develop their language skills.
Sample Topics: Topics vary by age and level, but can include the alphabet, syllables, reading comprehension, literature genres, stories, creative writing and more.
Grades: 1st through 3rd grade
Description: Students study different science and social studies topics throughout the year in Spanish, learning new vocabulary, and doing experiments, games and projects to deepen their learning.

Description: This fun, interactive class uses music and dance to bring Spanish language and culture alive. This class follows the same cycle of countries as the Art and Culture class, focusing on 8 to 10 Spanish-speaking countries a year and learning the music, dance and cultural traditions of each one. We sing, dance, play instruments and laugh together as we learn Spanish.
This class uses Canta y Baila Conmigo's En La Escuela curriculum, full of fun songs that will build their musical and language skills at the same time. Families get a download code to listen to the music at home, as well as a songbook with activities.
Grades: 1st through 3rd

Each class is planned with activities and games that are appropriate and fun for the age of the students.
